Nothing major here...but I may have found a little more info on the WTS's 1st VP, William I. Mann. From The Herald of Christ's Kingdom, Feb. 1931, published by the Bible Students who seperated from the Watchtower-- "The name of W. I. Mann will be known to many "Herald" readers as one who co-labored with Brother Russell in the early days of his ministry, as he wrote many articles that appeared in The Watch Tower at that time. It seems that for some little time this Brother had been attending the little meetings of our brethren in Rochester, and had enjoyed their studies with them. He had expressed his intention of being present at the meetings during my visit also, but meantime had passed away. The brethren in Rochester were impressed with his sincerity and had enjoyed his brief association with them. "The Lord knoweth them that are His."" (http://www.heraldmag.org/archives/1931_2.htm).....His attending the ecclesia in Rochester just before he died connects up well with this news item from Cornell Alumni News, December 18, 1930-- "'04 BSA—William I. Mann, father of Dean Albert R. Mann '04, died at his home in Rochester, N. Y.,on December 4, at the age of 86. He was born in Dundee, Scotland, coming to this country at an early age. He was mechanical engineer for the Carnegie Steel Company for twenty-five years and for the Jones and Laughlin Company fifteen years. Mr. Mann retired fifteen years ago. Charles W. Mann ?6 is also his son." (dspace.library.cornell.edu/bitstream/1813/3548/23/033_13.pdf)..... I'll leave it to Leo to prove/disprove and I guess we'll have to wait and see if it eventually connects up with anything else or not.

Sorry for your troubles!!! I hope things work out better than it feels like they will at this point. There's always hope, and you never know what one little thing (or million little things gradually accumulated) will do it for her. Best wishes ~ Merry

False religion's reaction to FALSE RELIGION tract = )
by FlyingHighNow income on, like they care.
my nephew and i talked on the phone this past weekend.
he told me that the new tract on false religion was going to cause big trouble.

I actually saw one response to it on u-tube, but not by "false religion." It was from a gay fella that used to be nice to JWs when they came by but was feeling far less tolerant of them once he noticed their strong stance against homesexuals in the new tract. That's about it.

Anyone familiar with this Ex-JW?...
by Merry Magdalene incurious about accusations against the iranian president for his views on the holocaust, i was doing a little research into the matter and stumbled across this character: ditlieb felderer
charged, tried, convicted and jailed in sweden.
vilified in the press.

Sounds interesting.... I too do not doubt that this holocaust occurred. One of my teachers had his toes frozen off in a concentration camp, and an ex-b/f's father was one one of the first US soldiers through the gates at one of the camps.... But I do understand that there are some legitimate questions about some of the numbers and events, also about how this terrible event has been used to further certain political agendas (if that would be the correct terminology), and the stifling of freedom of speech and inquiry in regard to this.

Old Rutherford vinyl records...
by Sam87 inmy mother found some old jw records a couple of months ago, they apparently were what the dubs used to use when they were witnessing, theyd go out with a record player and play these records to people to preach to them.. just wondering if anyone else has any of these?
im guessing theres probly not that many of them around, i think i have about 6 or so of them and they are quite old, (im at work at the moment so i cant really tell you any more about them) i was thinking that i mite sell them on ebay, maybe ill get a bit of cash for them.. .

My grandparents had a stack of the old Rutherford records and a player. I used to listen to them when I was a kid. And those poor old needles really did wear out fast! It would be interesting to hear what was on them now as an adult. Hope you can do that.

Researching the WBTS is painful and shocking
by restrangled inafter lady liberty gave a link to the new re-examine site, i found some details that are so disturbing its boggling my mind.. first, the original presidents were voted in, but not one vote per person but for every $10.00 contributed you received a vote.
so those already in power and with much money had tremendous sway as to who got in and who didn't.
this little scheme was not stopped until 1944.. so when rutherford was "elected by a unanimous vote" we can assume it was mainly of his own doing based on money contributed.

As to "Was his takeover ever challenged in a court of law?"....."Most modern observers agree that Rutherford was lucky that the directors never took the case to court. Rutherford put an end to the quarrels at the headquarters by having the directors and Johnson physically thrown out, and on one occasion he actually attacked Johnson physically. For some time, the vice-president, Pierson, sided with Rutherford’s opponents, but he eventually landed on Rutherford’s side.
